Direction/Information CSU Extension will provide information about the Family Leadership Training Institute (FLTI) to the BoCC.

Request and Recommendation CSU Extension requests signatures on the MOU for the implementation of the Family Leadership Training Institute from the BoCC.
Tagged Passions:training

Background The Family Leadership Training Institute is a 20-week civic-engagement and community leadership, educational training for 25 adults. CSU Extension is a host agency for the Arapahoe County FLTI site located in Sheridan. There are 14 FLTI sites across the state of Colorado.

This Agreement for Best Practices is made by and between Arapahoe County Extension and the Family Leadership Training Institute of Colorado at Colorado State University Extension (CSUE), for the implementation of the FLTI. This agreement ensures the process, infrastructure, and quality control for FLTI as implemented in communities across Colorado. It is an agreement that reflects the best practices based on core tenets and protocols for implementing FLTI. FLTI is a family civics initiative (formally known as) Connecticut Commission on Children and the National Parent Leadership Institute offered in collaboration with local community partners. Links to Align Arapahoe The Family Leadership Training Institute seeks to engage and train community members to become more informed and civically engaged family leaders. Each participant creates a civic project, which directly impacts the community in order to create a more healthy, vibrant, safe, informed, and connected community for residents and families.

FLTI is primarily funded through local community donations, both in-kind and monetary. CSU Extension has also budgeted for this imitative in order to support implementation. The Arapahoe County site is dedicated to using public resources wisely to effectively budget and serve the Sheridan community (and the surrounding areas) responsibly a community currently underserved in Arapahoe County.

Discussion The FLTI of Arapahoe County site has been discussed and shared with, and supported by, CSU Extension, the Community Resources Department, Commissioners Sharpe, Jackson, and Conti, the Mayor and City Council of Sheridan, and many other county and community partners since April of 2017. The 2018 FLTI of Arapahoe County cohort started training on January 13, 2018. On February 26, 2018 the FLTI of Colorado sent an MOU to the Arapahoe County site for signature. The Site Coordinator, Taylor McKinney, returned the MOU with questions and clarifications and received revision from the state team in the following weeks. After agreeing the revisions, the MOU was submitted to Tim Aston, CSU Extension Director. CSU Extension needs the approval and signatures of the BoCC on the MOU before submission to the state team.
