Protecting Los Angeles County Residents from Seasonal Outbreaks of Influenza
Revised recommendation as submitted by Supervisor . Solis and Hahn: Instruct the Director of Public Health to assess existing influenza outreach
efforts to identify additional opportunities to reach seniors and others at risk for severe complications from this illness and provide targeted, culturally and linguistically sensitive messaging and outreach to ensure key populations are reached, coordinating with the Director . of Workforce Development , Aging and Community Services, Publ ic Social Services, Mental Health, Health Services and other County
agencies that work with seniors, to reach seniors this population through County programs and facilities; work with the Director of Personnel to
develop messages to be sent to all County employees to encourage and provide information on opportunities for influenza immunization to protect employee health and minimize absenteeism; and report back to the Board within 90 days of the end of the 2019-20 influenza season on lessons learned that can be applied to the 2020-21 influenza season to improve immunization rates in high-risk groups. Recommendation as submitted by Supervisor Barger: Instruct the Director of Public Health to engage the California Restaurant Association, food
delivery platforms and other pertinent stakeholders in an effort to develop an educational campaign on safe food handling for food delivery platforms and restaurants, that underscores the importance of preventing food contamination by deploying food safety methods such as the integration of sealed packaging and appropriate safe food handling training for those that deliver food, and report back to the Board within 45 days. Recommendation as submitted by Supervisors Solis and Hahn: Direct the Chief Executive Officer to provide a written letter to the Southern California
Association of Governments (SCAG) Regional Council on behalf of the Board for adoption of an alternative methodology to the one currently proposed by SCAG staff for allocation of housing, which should prioritize jobs and transit accessibility, rely less on projected household growth, support infill development and avoid increased urbanization in areas of high and very high fire hazard, and should be aligned with the County s OurCounty Sustainability Plan; and the letter shall be provided prior to the SCAG Regional Council meeting, to be held November 7, 2019.
