The Lakes Advisory Board of Haines City has been working to improve and beautify our city s lakes and waterways. The board members meet on the second
Tuesday of each month with city members and other governmental organizations to advise on how to maintain and improve our lakes.
I want to thank Mayor West, Vice Mayor Anne Huffman, Commissioners Horace West, Roy Tyler and Jayne Hall as well as City Manager Deric Feacher for
supporting the Public Works Department and the Lakes Advisory Board in continuing to maintain and improve Haines City Lakes. The funds provided last year that went toward the replacement of the lighted fountain has made Lake Elsie a gem in Haines City. This is important, as it is the first impression that people see when arriving to the historical area
of Haines City. Over the past year, many have been able to sit and enjoy this area of our city, and it has become a popular spot.
The Board has prioritized a list of recommendations we would like you to consider and humbly ask for your continued support:
1. It is a widely known fact that most of the pollution in the lakes comes from the street storm drain sewers. We are requesting sufficient funding
to continue and complete the covers on all storm drains that discharge into the lakes. This project has been in the works for many years, but we would like to see it completed over the next three years.
